Selection variables
If you meet all the basic requirements, we’ll evaluate your application based on the following criteria:
- Age
- Education
- Employment experience
- Whether your job offer is valid
- English and/or French language competencies
- Resiliency (how well you are likely to adjust to the area)
- The eligibility for the Federal Skilled Worker Program is determined using a 100-point grid that includes these characteristics. You get points based on your performance in each of the six factors
- The current passing score is 67 points.
Your candidacy status for the Federal Skilled Worker Program is evaluated using the selection criteria points. Once your application has been received and added to the Express Entry pool, it is ranked using a different system. IRCC invites candidates with the top rankings from the pool to apply for permanent residency.
Minimum Requirement:
Skilled work experience
Skilled work experience requires you to have held a position in one of the following National Occupational Classification (NOC) occupation groups:
- Managerial jobs (skill type 0)
- Professional positions (skill level A)
- Technical and skilled occupations (skill level B)
You must demonstrate that, when employed in your principal employment, you executed the responsibilities outlined in the NOC’s lead statement of the occupation’s description. This contains all the essential duties and the majority of the stated primary duties.
Your professional employment experience should be;
- In the same occupation (have the same NOC) as the employment, you wish to utilize for your immigration application (called your primary occupation)
- Within the past decade
- Paid work (having been paid pay or commission; unpaid internships and voluntary labor do not count)
- A minimum of 1 year of continuous labor or 1,560 total hours (30 hours per week)—can be met in several ways:
- 30 hours per week times 12 months equals one year of full-time employment at a single job (1,560 hours)
- An equal amount of part-time labor, such as 15 hours per week for 24 months, equals one year of full-time employment (1,560 hours)
- You are permitted to hold as many part-time jobs as you are required to do so in order to fulfill this requirement.
- Full-time at several jobs: 30 hours per week at multiple jobs for 12 months equals one year of full-time work (1,560 hours)
Part-time employment expertise:
Your skilled work experience must be compensated labor involving paid wages or earned commission. We do not count unpaid internships or voluntary work.
More or fewer than 15 hours per week are permissible for part-time work, so long as the total is 1,560 hours. You can work multiple part-time jobs to obtain the required number of hours to apply.
IRCC do not account for hours worked in excess of 30 per week.
Student work experience:
Work experience earned throughout your studies may contribute toward your minimal requirements if it meets the following criteria:
- Was compensated by salary or commissions
- It was uninterrupted (no employment pauses), and
- Satisfies all the other Program requirements
Language ability:
You must:
Take certified English or French language examinations for:
- Writing
- Reading
- Listening
- Speaking
Attain a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score of 7 in all four skills. Add test results to your Express Entry profile. Your results on language tests are good for a period of two years after the date the exam was taken. They ought to be current on the date that the application for permanent residency is submitted.
Education:
If you attended school in Canada, you must have a Canadian certificate, diploma, or degree from:
- A Canadian secondary institution (high school or college) or
- A Canadian tertiary education institution
If you have an international education, you must:
- Completed certification, and
- Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) is a document required for immigration purposes that shows that your education is comparable to a certificate, diploma, or degree earned from a school in Canada. This document must be obtained from an authorized agency.
- A secondary institution (high school or college) or
- Tertiary education institution
Evidence of funds:
You must demonstrate that you and your family have sufficient funds to settle in Canada unless:
- You currently have legal permission to work in Canada
- Possess a legitimate job offer from a Canadian business

You must qualify for entry into Canada
