Visa requirements vary by nationality, so check with the Argentine embassy in your country for complete information and fees. Here are the basic regulations and procedures:

  • Those who wish to study in Argentina for longer than 90 days are required to obtain a student visa. Without this, you risk not receiving your transcripts at the conclusion of your stay.
  • In order to obtain a student visa, students will visit Argentina as tourists and then upgrade to a student visa upon arrival. This visa requires a passport (which must be valid for at least six months after the completion of your studies), a letter proving enrollment (issued by your university upon arrival), and a visa processing cost of up to $100.
  • A certificate from the Argentinean police department attesting to your clean record is also required if your study abroad program will last longer than six months (citizens outside of the MERCOSUR states will need to gain two of these – one from their home country and one upon arrival). It’s possible that a birth certificate is necessary, too.
  • If you want to spend more than a year in Argentina for academic purposes, you should indeed leave the country prior to the expiration of your existing visa and apply for a new visa upon your return. If you are unable to leave on the scheduled date, you must contact ISA (Study Abroad Argentina) to discuss potential alternatives. It will be on you to ensure that this operation is carried out properly.
  • In Argentina, it is also recommended that you carry a copy of your passport’s identification page and visa page at all times.
