The petition for Malta Citizenship by Naturalization for Extraordinary Services by Direct Foreign investment involves a rigorous review and evaluation, as well as a four-tiered process of due diligence. The following requirements must be met to qualify:
18 years of age or older for all applicants
A minimum investment commitment of 600000 EUR for a minimum residency period of 36 months or 750000 EUR for a minimum residency period of 12 months
The acquisition of a residential property in Malta that costs at least 700000 EUR and must be kept for at least five years. Alternately the five-year lease of a residential real estate with a rental income value of at least 16000 euros. Please notice that the property cannot be subleased for the next five years. During the residency time a 36-month (or 18-month with exceptions) leasing agreement or property purchase is necessary
A contribution of at least EUR 10000 to an approved sport cultural scientific charitable animal welfare or creative nongovernmental organization or society
Legal residence in Malta for at least 36 months (or 12 months by exception) along with the lease of a residential real estate with an annual rental value of at least €16000 held for the same period. Citizenship applications demand a valid residence card from applicants
All the applications must be submitted on the prescribed forms and accompanied by the required fees and papers. If an application contains inaccurate or missing information, it will be denied. A residency permit application will be sent if the Community Malta Agency’s Tier 1 due diligence checks are successful. After obtaining residency, an eligibility application will be submitted, and the agency will conduct additional (tiers 2, 3, and 4) due diligence checks, which will be given to the relevant Maltese minister, who will determine the applicant’s eligibility to apply for citizenship.
After successful 36 months of residence, a citizenship application will be filed to the Community Malta Agency (or 12 months by exception). After the minister determines whether or not the applicant is eligible for Maltese citizenship, the applicant must meet the exceptional investment, contribution, and property requirements. The applicant will then be invited to take the oath of allegiance in Malta and will be given a Maltese naturalization certificate. The Community Malta Agency will conduct five years of ongoing monitoring.
