Study in Malaysia

If you wish to study abroad in Malaysia, you must get a student visa, commonly known as a student pass, prior to your arrival. Your student pass is valid for only one year and must be renewed at least 1.5 months prior to its expiration date. The annual charge for a student visa in Malaysia is only RM 60 ($14), which is quite low compared to other countries.

Procedure for Malaysian student visa applications

• Accept a place in a university in Malaysia: Receive a formal admissions letter from the college of your choice and pay any applicable enrollment costs.
• University initiates the application process for student passes: Your University contacts the Malaysian immigration authorities on your behalf to register a visa application. They will request that you review and digitally sign the official application form after they have completed it.
• Collect the necessary documents: You must provide multiple documents to your university so they can complete your application. A complete list is provided in the following section.
• Pay processing fees for visas: In addition to the application price charged by the government, some universities impose a processing fee. The precise amount will vary by institution.
• Await a decision: The immigration authorities will typically inform the institution of the status of your application within one week.
• Receive an approval letter: Your University will provide you with a visa acceptance letter (VAL). This is a temporary student pass that permits entry into the nation. This must be presented to immigration officers upon arrival.
• Notify the college of your travel plans: Send the institution your arrival data, including dates, airport, and flight numbers. Typically, a representative of the university will meet you at the airport.
• Collect your student pass: Within two weeks after your arrival, your university will transmit your passport to the immigration office. It will return with a sticker for your student pass.

• Applying for a student visa in Malaysia is quick and simple. The entire process typically takes between four and six weeks from application to visa receipt. The total processing time for the Visa Approval Letter (VAL) is fourteen days, while the processing time for an entry visa is between one and three weeks. It is preferable to submit your Visa application as soon as possible in case of unanticipated delays.
• Malaysia has stricter employment regulations for international students than many other countries. All students are permitted to work 20 hours a week, just like in any other country, but only during university breaks. You are never permitted to work during the academic year.
