Qatar, located on the protruding Qatari landmass on the northeast coast of the Arabian Peninsula, shares its border with Saudi Arabia and the rest of its borders with the Persian Gulf. Despite being smaller than many of its neighbors, Qatar’s wealth has increased in recent years due to its fuel trade. Qatar is one of the world’s wealthiest nations and is making substantial investments in developing and internationalizing its higher education system. If you wish to study in Qatar, you must determine which of its cities best suits you. The cities with the most students in Qatar.
A number of nations, among them the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Singapore, and Hong Kong, can obtain tourist visas upon arrival at Doha airport for short-term studies in Qatar. Citizens of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates do not require a visa to enter Qatar. The fee for a 30-day tourist visa is 105 QR (US$30), payable upon entry into Qatar, and is frequently renewable prior to the expiration of the 30-day period.
If you wish to study in Qatar for longer than one month, or if your nation is not included on the eligible list, obtaining a visa will be tougher. Qatari embassies cannot issue visas, so you will need a sponsor to complete the application process on your behalf. In many instances, your university of choice will act as your sponsor, so you apply for your visa through the institution. In the event that you are submitting your student visa application through a sponsor, you may be required to submit a birth certificate, a medical certificate attesting to your good health, evidence of enough funds to cover your study and stay, and a clean police report.
This second option is the safest for longer programs requiring full student enrollment, as a tourist visa should technically only be used for tourism. In certain instances, the university may restrict enrollment to individuals with a valid residence permit. This requires a sponsor, which is typically the institution in question. Visit the international office of the school for more information.
