Dubai ranks 51st globally in terms of its suitability for student life and student-friendliness, well within the top 100 places for students. Student life in Dubai can be quite difficult, particularly if you are relocating to a new city. From exploring your new city to managing your finances, everything is so hectic! You must have a resident sponsor to obtain a visa to study in the United Arab Emirates. If you do not have relatives or contacts in the UAE, the university offering you a place will typically make these connections for you. You can get your visa online, but without a sponsor, there is no guarantee of acceptance. A student residence visa is typically issued for only one year and can be renewed. In addition to the application fee of up to AED 3,000 (US$820), a deposit of AED 1,000 (US$270) is required.

These are the typical documents you will be required to provide:

  • Passport and four copies of the passport
  • Twelve photographs
  • Three passport copies with a UAE entry visa are required upon arrival.
  • A letter confirming your acceptance to a university in the United Arab Emirates.
  • Perhaps bank statements demonstrating funds in the UAE.
  • Perhaps a rental agreement (or a letter from the university if you’ll be staying in university housing).
  • Copy of tuition fee receipt for the program’s current academic year
  • Visa receipt for the current academic year of the program.
  • Postgraduate students must demonstrate that they possess an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution.
  • You should also anticipate undergoing a medical examination at an authorized center upon entering the country, including testing for HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, tuberculosis, leprosy, and syphilis. Except for syphilis, anyone who tests positive for any of these will be deported.
